Attorney · Chicago, Illinois
A record of the work rather than a pitch for it. If you are looking for help with a case, that lives at the firm — this is the background behind it.
How I work
Families first, and the community they live in
Family cases are not commercial disputes. The people on the other side of my desk are usually having one of the worst months of their lives, and the first thing they need is not a strategy memo — it is a straight answer about what happens next.
So I answer the phone. I explain the procedure before I explain the theory. I tell clients when a filing will not help them, which is sometimes the most useful thing I can say. Every extra hearing costs a parent time with a child and money they would rather spend on the child.

Free resources, openly published
A great deal of family law in Cook County is handled by people without lawyers, not by choice. The firm publishes its procedural guides and Illinois court forms openly at chiattorney.com, so a parent who cannot hire anyone can read the general steps before a hearing. The guides do not say what a judge will ask, or how any case will end.
That includes emergency material — including how after-hours and weekend emergency orders of protection actually work in Cook County, and the hours when no court is open at all.
